Introduction
The Kimchi Association of Korea works to develop the Kimchi industry and spread Kimchi culture. Bringing together Kimchi manufacturers and industry stakeholders, it raises the quality and standing of Kimchi and promotes its value at home and abroad, connecting industry and consumers so that Kimchi, a traditional fermented food, becomes a cultural asset representing K-Food.

Kimchi has grown beyond a Korean side dish into a cultural asset that represents K-Food. As the world turns to healthy fermented foods and local food cultures, the Kimchi Association of Korea needed a premium brand that could tell the story of Kimchi. Together with the association, Saltcake created “Sakaedam (사계담),” a Kimchi brand that represents Korea.

A Name That Holds the Flavors of Four Seasons

The taste of Kimchi changes with the seasons: fresh cabbage in spring, young radish in summer, Kimjang in autumn and aged Kimchi in winter. “Sakaedam” is a name that means holding the changes and flavors of the four seasons, and its slogan, “Sakaedam, for every season,” promises the same taste in every season. Starting from the rhythm of nature, the sense of season and the emotions of Korean food culture, we designed everything from naming to brand identity and visual language as one continuous story.

A Modern Sensibility on a Foundation of Tradition

The logo pairs a Korean wordmark with the warmth of handwriting and colorful graphics inspired by the seasons, keeping the depth of a traditional food while feeling fresh to today’s consumers. We designed jar packaging and a gift set where crisp white labels and bold red let the color of Kimchi stand out first, adding English messages such as “Sakaedam, for every season” and “The flavor of the seasons, preserved in tradition” for global consumers. Telling the seasonal stories of Kimchi through emotional storytelling, we also proposed an integrated branding and marketing strategy. Built on the credibility of the association, the branding helps Kimchi be remembered as a taste of Korea worth sharing.
