Introduction - Saltcake Media Lab is Saltcake’s in-house research team, experimenting with new technologies and interactions to explore “the essential value of happy experiences.” It builds and exhibits new media technologies such as VR and AR, holograms and motion recognition, and carries the insights gained into the experience design of client projects.
“OH!logram” is a hologram display that sets the exhibition logo floating in mid-air. By reflecting video onto a clear glass pyramid, we made the “oh!” logo appear to hover inside the case.
We designed the video to face every direction so the logo looks three-dimensional from any angle, letting visitors walk around the case and see it in 360 degrees. Instead of watching a screen, we wanted people to encounter an object placed in space.
At a time when holograms still felt like something out of the movies, this piece found a way to present a brand logo at its most striking with nothing more than a small glass box. The experiment led to Saltcake’s later hologram work, including the gesture-controlled HoloMotion.
This work was shown at “Oh!”, the interactive exhibition by Saltcake Media Lab held in Hongdae, Seoul, from September 16 to 28, 2014.
