Introduction - Saltcake Media Lab is Saltcake’s in-house research team, experimenting with new technologies and interactions to explore “the essential value of happy experiences.” It builds and exhibits new media technologies such as VR and AR, holograms and motion recognition, and carries the insights gained into the experience design of client projects.
Opus is a VR experience combining Oculus Rift and Leap Motion technologies. Inspired by block games such as Tetris and LEGO, it is an immersive experience that takes people into another dimension.
Opus goes beyond a simple experience: it is a journey that leads users from a structured, orderly environment into a fragmented, chaotic world. Along the way, color, form and space are continuously reconfigured by the user’s actions, driving the whole experience.
At the heart of the experience is the balance between creation and destruction. Music guides the player into an immersive world free from traditional rules such as time limits, scores or endings. Users can freely transform the environment through specific hand gestures.
Among geometric forms that look like giant toys, users can feel as if they have entered a childhood play world. When forms are destroyed or created, their blocks scatter or mix, giving rise to a unique, abstract 3D canvas.
With the “Cube Capture” feature, users can create new forms with a 3D interface.
With the right hand, users fire cannonballs,
and rotating the left hand activates a 3D interface that creates new forms.
Through freedom of control, sensory immersion and rule-free creation, Opus leads users into an entirely new dimension of simulation.
