Introduction - Saltcake Media Lab is Saltcake’s in-house research team, experimenting with new technologies and interactions to explore “the essential value of happy experiences.” It builds and exhibits new media technologies such as VR and AR, holograms and motion recognition, and carries the insights gained into the experience design of client projects.
At the 2015 Seoul Design Festival, held at COEX from December 2 to 6, 2015, Saltcake planned and ran an interactive new media exhibition built on its creativity, technology and fresh ideas.
Following “Oh!”, the interactive exhibition held in Hongdae in 2014, this media exhibition combined an even wider range of technologies and ideas. The goal was for visitors to experience new technologies used in digital marketing and campaigns, such as virtual reality, holograms and multi-touch screens, and remember Saltcake as a trendy, interactive company.
We presented six installations based on different technologies and ways of interacting.
Paragliding VR
— a virtual reality paragliding simulation made with Oculus Rift and Kinect
Dragball
— a multi-touch table pinball game played with real objects
HoloMotion
— a hologram display controlled with Leap Motion
Saltcake AR
— Saltcake’s free augmented reality mobile application
Twinkle Beats
— an experimental music installation
Saltcake Manager
— a dashboard showing Saltcake news
The 14th Seoul Design Festival drew some 200 brands and 650 designers and a total of 93,321 visitors, and the Saltcake booth attracted the most visitors of all. The Paragliding VR zone was especially popular.
